2) Fed 4

Fed 4 Type B

  • Fed 4 Type A
If you are thinking about buying a Soviet Rangefinder camera, then this is the one for you. A second version Fed 3 with built in light meter. Unfortunatly it is still an ugly duckling, not a camera to impress friends. However it is a superb user camera, as good as any screw thread Leica at a knock down bargain price. This is a FED-3 modified to accept a light meter. This first model with knob wind is uncommon. The precise years of production of this model are unknown. This is the post war model with the lowest production.

  • Fed 4 Type B
The viewfinder assembly is much higher in the FED-4 to add a a light meter. The light meter control knob is where the rewind knob was so the rewind knob now sticks out of the side. The camera again was available with either single or dual lettering. these cameras have one quarter inch tripod sockets. There are also several variations as listed below: 1.Export model with removable spool and "MADE IN USSR" 2."REVUE-4" engraving as for Revue-3 3."TAXAL" engraving for export to the USA 4. Moscow games engraving in 1980.

3) FED 5

FED 5

FED 5B

FED 5C

  • FED 5 (1977-1990)
This camera was a cosmetic redesign of the FED-4. Although there was very little change to the overall camera it looks much better than its' predecessor. The meter is very well integrated into the top deck with the rewind knob now in the center of the meter dial. The camera also has a hot shoe as well as a flash jack. The two standard variations exist, the export model and the 1980 Moscow Games. The eveready case for this camera has one snap and is made of red brown leather with a FED symbol embossed in a large chrome ring on the lens cover. This is the end of the line for Soviet cameras based on the Leica II shutter and rangefinder. As far as I know it is no longer in production. It is a shame as the recent renaissance of the Rangefinder 39mm screw mount camera would have allowed FED to make a killing.

  • Fed 5 Type B (1975-1990)
Developement of FED 3 Type B,New arming lever,Rewind crank(+),Synchronized contact in the hot-shoes,Dioptric adjustment, Supplied with Fed industar-61L/D F2.8 53mm lens. The FED 5 came in three versions, all based on its predecessor the FED 4. Again it is a very ugly looking brick shaped camera. The 5 included an exposure meter and the 5B had no exposure Meter. The 5C had an exposure meter and included a bright line viewfinder frame in its rangefinder. The quality of these cameras is very poor not as well made as the FED 4 or its predecessors. The one I have is a 5B, which exhibits the following faults, uneven shutter curtains, camera case that falls apart and all the controls are out of alignment or loose. This was on a brand new camera. It still however manages to take superb photographs. I cannot recommend this camera.

  • Fed 5 TypeC (1977-1990)
Economic Model of the FED-5, without dioptric regulator, but with luuminescent viewfinder. For the soviet market, the spool holder is not interchangeable. Equipped with Industar61L/D F2.8 53mm Lens

  • Fed 5 S
The only apparent difference in this camera is that it does not have diopter adjustment. The two standard variations exist, the export model and the 1980 Moscow Games. The eveready case for this camera has one snap and is made of red brown leather with a FED symbol embossed in a large chrome ring on the lens cover

  • Fed 5 V(1977-1990)
This camera has no exposure meter and has a rewind crank and film speed reminder in place of the meter controls. The two standard variations exist, the export model and the 1980 Moscow Games. The eveready case for this camera has one snap and is made of red brown leather with a FED symbol embossed in a large chrome ring on the lens cover.
